Se nombra regalia (reh-GAY-leea) al traje tradicional que usan las comunidades indígenas de Estados Unidos y Canadá para diferentes rituales. Sin embargo, la regalia encarna mucho más que un traje, de echo, podría afirmarse que reh-GAY-leea es un espíritu.
El momento cumbre para usar este traje son las ceremonias Pow Wow ’s. A través de la reh-GAY-leea se narra la historia personal, familiar y comunitaria, la deriva social y cultural grabada en la historia de este pueblo.
El traje de esta niña es un tejido donde pasado, presente y futuro nos narran el centímetro a centímetro de su memoria. Su reh-GAY-leea es un mundo; cada atuendo tiene la singularidad de los danzantes y es producto de sus visiones en sueños y ceremonias con plantas.
La parafernalia de este traje ceremonial nos recuerda su uso como investiduras que dan propósito y sentido a la construcción colectiva de los conocimientos de las culturas ancestrales. Su propósito va más allá de cubrir el cuerpo: en el traje se representa y expresa una forma de existir en las culturas.
El atuendo del Pow Wow de un bailarín es una colección de artículos que reflejan sus vidas, intereses e historias. Muchos usan prendas que son reliquias familiares o regalos elaborados por miembros de sus clanes. Algunos trajes son confeccionados se van re diseñanod durante toda la vida: se van transformando según las vivencias de la persona que los porta.
La trasmisión de estas tradiciones se conserva en la participación de los niños en el encuentro del Pow Wow. Así, esta niña es el relato y la historia en movimiento de la memoria de la cual es heredera.
El portar los trajes en el ritual tradicional implica un largo tiempo de preparación. Sus danzas, músicas y cantos llegan por fin al momento de expansión en el espacio comunitario donde se comparten las tradiciones que se ha venido cultivando.
